Will Climate Danger Demand a Sabbath?

I’m so interested to see if this “Climate Repentance Ceremony and the Climate Justice Ten Universal Commandments happens tomorrow” (Nov 13, 2022) I heard that Egypt would not actually allow these leaders to go to Mt. Sinai for this ceremony.  The event is still happening just at a different place, London, because it was readily accessible to faith leaders and media. A small group of faith leaders is still supposed to be allowed to ascend to Mt. Sinai for the Repentance Ceremony.

I’m also watching to see if one of the new 10 ends up being a call for a worldwide day of rest.

I would like to submit some information for you to consider.   I am not going to belabor this.  Most of you know I keep the Biblical Sabbath on Saturday.  I published a book about it.  A Sabbath Day’s Journey I share very mindfully about the Sabbath.  I don’t shove it down anyone’s throat. So I am going to share this possible scenario with you.  Don’t allow yourself to get offended at me.  Don’t turn away because it’s something you’ve never considered.  This is important. Please read to the end and keep an open mind and prayerfully study this.

A statement about the event.  “This “interfaith” climate conference, predictably sponsored by the U.N., seeks to be “transformative, inspirational and heart-stirring.” Conference goals include changes in attitude and heart, new vision and the putting forth of climate justice via the “ten universal commandments.””

This interfaith group has already alluded to one of the “commandments” being centered on every person being vegetarian.  And very possibly, one of the “new” commandments could include a worldwide day of rest….as in, a Sabbath.

Why do I think this?  And why does it matter to you?

Firstly, the Pope is at the center of this idea and his Laudato Si Treaty is at the center of this climate repentance ceremony.

On the day of Pentecost, 24 May, 2015, Francis signed the text of Laudato Si’, and this is what he says on the last page of the encyclical: “Given in Rome, at St. Peter’s, on May 24, the Solemnity of Pentecost, in the year 2015, the third of my Pontificate.”

The Pope enacted a 7 year treaty (not even going to touch that one right now) to save the planet, and in support of this, the Interfaith Climate Activists will boldy approach Mt. Sinai and pen a new set of 10 commandments.

In October 2021, Pope Francis and other religious leaders made a joint appeal  for leaders of COP 26 to take concrete steps to save the planet from a climate crisis.  These steps support the Paris Agreements and Agenda 2030, whose goals are to reduce carbon emissions at any cost.

These moral and faith leaders are using the sway of religion coupled with their influence in support of this agenda.  They have even created such things as a Green Sabbath, where each person is required to “give the environment a break one day a week”, and Climate Sundays where they preach the religion of climate change.

“We live with the accelerator down from morning to night….Rest opens our eyes to the larger picture and gives us renewed sensitivity to the rights of others. And so the day of rest, centered on the Eucharist, sheds it light on the whole week, and motivates us to greater concern for nature and the poor.” Pope Francis

Pope Francis

“On Sunday, our participation in the Eucharist has special importance. Sunday, like the Jewish Sabbath, is meant to be a day which heals our relationships with God, with ourselves, with others and with the world. Sunday is the day of the Resurrection, the ‘first day’ of the new creation, whose first fruits are the Lord’s risen humanity, the pledge of the final transfiguration of all created reality. It also proclaims ‘man’s eternal rest in God’.” (Laudato Si’ #237).

This idea of mandating a worldwide day of rest has been in the background for quite a few years, but covid really highlighted the idea.  A few months into the pandemic, pictures began to surface of smog-free cities, clean waterways, and families happily at home together….NOT contributing to the carbon footprint.  The moment was seized.  Here was a way they could invoke emotions and garner the support of every person on the planet.  And locking down the entire world proved that it was a good thing for the environment to rest. This emotion paired with religious zeal is the perfect catalyst to get everyone on board supporting the agenda to combat climate change.  What could be wrong with that, right?

There is nothing wrong with a day of rest.  There is nothing wrong with wanting to protect the environment.  The issue arises when you decided to change God’s word.  The problem is the Catholic church officially changed the Sabbath day to Sunday after 300 AD.  (They didn’t really because you can’t change what the Almighty God set forth in His word.)  Truth:  the Sabbath was never changed by God or Jesus or the disciples.  It was kept faithfully on the 7th day until the persecution began around 321 AD.  The ruling bodies wished to separate the new Christianity from the Jewish faith.  They first outlawed resting on Saturday and then 11 years later declared the death penalty on anyone caught doing so.  Many of the martyrs of this time period were killing for keeping the Biblical Sabbath.

Statements from the Catholic church concerning Sabbath:

“We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.” Peter Geiermann, The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (St. Louis, B. Herder Book Co., 1957 ed.), p. 50.

The Catholic Church says: “Sunday is our mark of authority…the church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.” The Catholic Record of London, Ontario, Canada, September 1, 1923

“Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change (Saturday Sabbath to Sunday) was her act… And the act is a MARK of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things.” -H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons.

So considering all of this, what day do you think the Pope will present as the day to keep Sabbath?  Sunday of course.  This is their mark of authority as they have said themselves.  What happens then?  Will Jews and other believers abandon the 4th commandment that YHVH established from the foundation of the world?  Will you?  I grew up believing that Sunday was God’s Sabbath day, but saw the truth.  We have all been deceived in this area.

Daniel 7 warns us that the 4th Beast would change times and seasons and days and years.  The word for seasons is “moedim”….Yahweh’s Holy Days; and the Sabbath is His Most Holy Day.  We cannot change the day that He chose as the Sabbath.  The disciples cannot change it….and they did not.   The early New Testament church cannot change the Sabbath and they did not.  The Catholic Pope cannot change the Sabbath….and yet he has.

The One True God YHVH said, “I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them” (Ezekiel 20:12). “It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth” (Exodus 31:17).

God gave us His seventh day Sabbath as a glorious sign of His power to create and His power to sanctify (convert and save) us. In the Bible, the words seal, sign, mark, and token are used interchangeably (Genesis 17:11 with Romans 4:11 and Revelation 7:3 with Ezekiel 9:4.)

I share this very soberly.  What if?

What if the Catholic’s mark of authority becomes the law of the land?  What happens to the mark/sign that YHVH instituted on the week of Creation?  When the Messiah returns the 2nd time, whose mark/sign will you be associated with?

I just felt I needed to present this scenario to you…in case it does come about.

This is heavy, I know.  This is a lot.  I repeatedly thought I wouldn’t even share it.  Then, by chance, I found myself perusing the schedule for the CO27 Climate Conference.  Imagine my surprise when I realized that they were closing the entire thing on Sunday for a day of rest!! That was my confirmation that this is very likely something in the works.
