According to a recent article by Breaking Israel News, the coronavirus may very well force the entire world to observe the Sabbath. A true, total Sabbath has likely not been observed since 70 AD. Neither has the land of Israel experienced a true Sabbath rest since becoming a nation and returning to their land 70 years ago.
Add to this that the Jewish sages say that the keeping of a double Sabbath, a Jewish Sabbath and a non-Jewish Sabbath, a Saturday Sabbath and and a Sunday Sabbath, precedes the Messiah. This is an amazing example of looking at the bright side of Covid-19.
In addition, Orthodox Jews and Messianic Jews around the world follow a weekly Bible reading plan called the Torah Portions or the Parsha. Don’t be shocked to find out that this week’s reading opens with Moses commanding the Jews to keep the Sabbath.
Exodus 35
1 And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the Lord hath commanded, that ye should do them.
2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.
3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.
The word Sabbath or Shabbat literally means “to cease” or “to stop”. How interesting that much of the world will observe a much needed Sabbath.
“Let everyone remain where he is: let no one leave his place on the seventh day.” Exodus 16:29
